Dear Parents,

The month of May has been a little busy and it looks like the next few weeks are shaping up to be just as action-packed! There are a few upcoming dates and events that our Grade 7 class will be involved in, so I will try and include the ones that you need to be aware of.

Wednesday, May 27

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Day in Port Alice—The Grade 6 and 7 students (who have their permission slips in) will be travelling to Port Alice to apply a variety of applied skills in solving a science-based challenge.

Thursday, May 28

This will be our class Fun Day. In the morning, we will be heading down to Centennial Field and the surrounding area to play an outdoor education game of Predator-Prey. If you are interested in coming in to help with this activity or do not want your child to participate, please contact me at the school. In the afternoon, we will be having an outdoor class picnic at the school. If your child can bring food to share, that would be lovely.

6:30 pm Grade 7 Parent Meeting in the NISS Learning Commons—An informational meeting for parents will be held for all parents of students who will be attending NISS for the first time next year. If you know someone whose child will be a new student at NISS in the fall, please pass on this information.

Friday, May 29

NISS Transition—The Grade 7 students will be walking to NISS in the morning to participate in the traditional transition activities and meeting other youth who will also be starting Grade 8 in the Fall.

Tuesday, June 2

6:30 Grade 7 Parent Meeting in the Grade 7 classroom. The Victoria trip is coming up very soon. Please attend this meeting to go over all of the necessary permissions and waivers required for your child to participate in the planned activities. Current balances from your child’s fundraising will be available. We are hoping to have all monies in no later than June 8 for record keeping purposes. There will be a short chaperone meeting afterwards.

June 15-19

Victoria Trip—I will be sending home a copy of the itinerary and a packing list at the beginning of June so that students and families can plan ahead. These items will also be available at the June 2 parent meeting.

Wednesday, June 24

Grade 7 Leaving Ceremony (Time TBA)—If you have not sent in a baby picture of your child, please do so as soon as possible, as I would like to have the PowerPoint complete no later than Friday June 5th. If you would like to e-mail me the picture, please do so to cpurdey@sd85.bc.ca. We are also looking for parents who are willing to participate in a decorating committee so that the gym can become a little more festive for our students. If you would like to volunteer to be a decorator, please contact me at the school (250) 956-4434.

Thank you so much and I look forward to seeing you!
